All About Bird Banding
by Shawn Ashbaugh

Austin bird bander Shawn Ashbaugh will speak at Wimberley Birding Society's quarterly meeting at 10 a.m., Monday, May 19, in the community center. Prior to the meeting, around daybreak, he will set up mist nets on the Patsy Glenn Refuge, providing a demonstration of live bird-banding. Plan on dropping by the Refuge anytime between 8 and 9:30 a.m. to see him in action.

An accomplished birder and owner of an Austin graphic arts business, Ashbaugh is a compiler of the Travis Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert and a former TAS board member. His topic for our meeting will be "All About Bird Banding" and, if they cooperate, he will have photos of some of the birds he bands at the Refuge.

Also at the meeting, Dell and Gerin Hood will report on the club's recent trip to Nicaragua. New officers will be elected and signup sheets will be available for trips to Iceland, Reno-Lake Tahoe and Bermuda.
